The Horizon He has for you.

“ But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts my head.” Psalm 3:3
For years I viewed this verse through the lens that God is the one who lifts my head. I would apply this during seasons of difficulty. Yet, recently my interpretation of this verse has been expanded to the reality that God shows us the bigger picture, as the lifter of our heads. When you lift your head high, you see beyond the horizon. The path before you loses focus, and you begin to view where you are going.
When hiking, I look directly down so I do not misstep and hurt my ankle. When I’m running on the trail, I know the path is clear, I can trust each step won’t falter me to the ground, and I keep my head high. Both hiking and running hold different levels of beauty, but when your eyes are on the ground, you only see the steps directly in front of you. Sometimes this is okay, and this is where God wants us. Yet here in his word, He is saying that he is a shield around you and, therefore, look up, trust the steps you are taking and view the beauty HE is unfolding before you.
