I remember trying to play basketball as a young kid. I had a consistent free throw and I could run fast. My trouble was that I could not remember the plays. I was always confused, which made me completely useless. No one could depend on me, as my confusion limited the use of my skills. Eventually, I left the team because I knew I was a burden. The simulation of how I felt on the basketball court resembles how I felt in life. I was confused and exhausted from running back and forth, and completely useless. Warped by my pain, I never made it to the hoop. I was lost somewhere in mid-court, with my teammates annoyed.
Our minds are much like the court. To reach the hoop, we need structure, a plan, guidance, and teammates. Unfortunately, most of us allow our minds to be filled with limitless boundaries, no accountability, and void of God’s word as our guidance and playbook. The devil loves a mind wracked with limited boundaries and rampant thoughts as these are breeding grounds for confusion. If the devil can keep us confused, he can prevent us from experiencing God’s peace. 1 Peter 5:8 proclaims, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Confusion keeps us trapped into believing lies and never moving forward into the goodness God intends for us to live. The Bible illustrates a similar analogy to my basketball court experience. Confusion leads to being tossed back and forth like a wave. You will run back and forth, unable to remember who God is and who He says you are. You might feel like a burden to everyone around you and eventually give up. This is why Christ has called us to a mind conformed by Christ, following His playbook, the Bible, for our lives. A mind conformed by Christ creates stability, peace, and progress.
