Don’t mind me, I’ll just be the girl over here, licking the lid! Joking with a friend about what others must perceive, as we lick clean, the cool sweet, creamy foam off our cold brew lids. Turning from our embarrassment to giddiness as we realize someone else is adult enough to still be kiddish.
“ When your cup runneth over, lick the lid!” She proclaimed. Referencing to Psalm 23:5.
After what seems like generations of searching for such childlike joy, this moment of lid licking, has met my realization that joy can be found, once again. The years of pain, tears and prayers, desiring to be an overcomer, have been met with His promise. “My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me, all the days of my life.”
Life is hard, leaving no one behind in its challenges. Preceding this promise, scripture reads,
“ Yah, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil.”
I stand in awe, having walked through both the valley of the shadow of death, to a place where my cup now runs over! I never believed this time in my life would come. The years it took to get to this place of restoration had me met with desperation and discouragement.
Friends, this is a promise! Your cup can and will run over. Psalm 23 is by far one of the most rich and beautiful, promise-filled passages from the Bible. It’s the blueprint for navigating through pain. Life is hard, but He (God) will lead you beside still waters. Still waters are our healing, our journey. He will restore your soul , but He won’t stop there. Not until your cup is overflowing with His goodness and mercy for your life!
Take it from a girl who knows. You too will one day proudly stand before others, licking the sweet tasting foam off your lid!
